Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala today, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime infrastructure. The port, with an investment of approximately ₹8,900 crore, is set to enhance India’s position in global trade. Located in Thiruvananthapuram, it is India’s first deep-water container transshipment terminal, designed to handle ultra-large container vessels and offering direct connectivity to major international shipping routes.

The Vizhinjam port boasts state-of-the-art automation and IT systems, making it one of the most technologically advanced transshipment ports in the world. It is equipped with modern container handling equipment and world-class infrastructure to ensure efficient and sustainable operations. The port is strategically positioned just 10 nautical miles from the international east-west shipping route, further boosting its importance in global trade.

The project is expected to significantly benefit Kerala’s economy by creating job opportunities and improving trade efficiency. Developed under a public-private partnership model, the Kerala Government, Government of India, and the Adani Group have all played key roles in the port’s development.

With the inauguration of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, India is set to enter a new era of maritime trade, positioning itself as a key player on the global stage.
