China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan Amid Ceasefire Violations

China

In a significant diplomatic move, China has once again declared its unwavering support for Pakistan, even as Islamabad faces international criticism for allegedly violating the recently brokered ceasefire with India.

During a high-level call between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar earlier today, China reiterated its stance on supporting Pakistan’s “sovereignty, territorial integrity, and core national interests.” The statement came just hours after fresh hostilities erupted in Jammu and Kashmir, with explosions reported in Srinagar and Indian air defence systems engaging suspected aerial threats.

China’s reaffirmation of its alliance with Pakistan raised eyebrows in diplomatic circles, particularly in New Delhi, where officials have condemned what they describe as “blatant ceasefire violations” by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC).

Notably, this is not the first time Beijing has stood by Islamabad in times of regional tension. The two nations share what they call an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” and China remains a key investor in Pakistan’s infrastructure through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship Belt and Road Initiative project.

“It is deeply concerning that while hostilities resume, China chooses to diplomatically back a side actively breaching the ceasefire,” said a former Indian envoy on condition of anonymity. “Such statements undermine the spirit of peace and dialogue.”

China, for its part, has urged both nations to exercise restraint and resolve their issues through dialogue. However, it has refrained from publicly condemning Pakistan’s actions despite mounting evidence of aggression.

The situation in the region remains volatile. Analysts warn that China’s continued support for Pakistan, despite the unfolding violence, may complicate any attempts at restoring stability in South Asia.
