Urgent: TSRTC Rental Bus Owners Threaten Strike Over Growing Apprehensions on Maha Lakshmi Scheme

TSRTC rental bus owners are set to initiate a strike from January 5 unless the Telangana government promptly addresses their concerns. The primary issue revolves around the surge in passengers due to the recently launched Maha Lakshmi Scheme.

Key concerns raised by TSRTC rental bus owners include overcrowding, which they argue will result in mileage problems. They are also apprehensive about insufficient insurance coverage, fearing significant financial losses in case of accidents if bus capacity limits are exceeded.

The Maha Lakshmi scheme, introduced by the Telangana Congress during the election campaign, aims to provide various benefits to Telangana women, such as a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2500, gas cylinders at Rs 500, and free travel in TSRTC buses. While the first two promises are pending implementation, free travel in TSRTC buses has already been introduced by the government.

According to TSRTC, approximately 6.50 crore women in the state have availed themselves of free travel in state-run buses since the inception of the Mahalakshmi scheme. Despite this, the concerns raised by TSRTC rental bus owners regarding overcrowding have led to their decision to go on strike on January 5 unless the government promptly addresses these issues.
