In the final league stage clash of IPL 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
With both teams already out of playoff contention, the match is a matter of pride and an opportunity to end their campaign on a high note. Cummins, while announcing his decision at the toss, stated that his side wanted to put runs on the board and give their bowlers a target to defend. “We’ve clicked well recently. The bowlers have found rhythm, and the batters have stepped up. We want to finish strong,” Cummins said.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who would have preferred to bowl first, acknowledged the recent trend of successful run chases but remained confident in his side’s balance. “We’ll look to restrict them and chase confidently. There’s still a lot to play for in terms of individual performances and pride,” Rahane noted.
SRH’s lineup features the explosive duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the top, supported by Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan in the middle. The bowling attack is led by Cummins himself, with Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat providing support.
KKR, meanwhile, is banking on the experience of Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock, with firepower from Andre Russell and stability from Rinku Singh in the middle order. Their bowling will be spearheaded by Anrich Nortje and Varun Chakaravarthy.
Though the match won’t affect the playoff race, it provides both franchises with a chance to test younger talent and finish the season with momentum going into the next edition.
