The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be dedicated to the Indian Armed Forces in recognition of their bravery during the recently concluded Operation Sindoor. The final, scheduled for June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, will feature tributes to the armed forces, including performances by military bands and appearances by top military officials.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives. The Indian military retaliated by targeting multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in what officials described as a highly successful operation. The move received widespread support from across the country, prompting the BCCI to dedicate the IPL’s grand finale to the heroes of the operation.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “BCCI salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces and honor our heroes.”
Invitations to the event have been extended to several high-ranking military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. The closing ceremony will blend patriotism with entertainment, featuring popular Indian singers and visual displays that celebrate the armed forces’ valor.
The IPL 2025 season had been briefly suspended following the Pahalgam attack, but upon resumption, several gestures were introduced to honor the armed forces. Players across teams participated in singing the national anthem before matches, while stadium displays carried messages such as “Thank you, armed forces.” Fans and franchises alike have shown overwhelming support for the tribute.
The sentiment has extended beyond cricket. Actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta donated ₹1 crore to the Army Wives Welfare Association, saluting the courage of war widows and expressing confidence in the nation’s security under the armed forces’ watch.
As anticipation builds for the IPL 2025 final, the event promises to be more than just a cricketing showdown. It will serve as a powerful symbol of national pride and unity, bringing together sport, music, and military honor in a celebration of India’s defenders.
