In a bold escalation of the ongoing war, Ukraine has reportedly launched a massive drone attack targeting multiple Russian airbases, resulting in damage to more than 40 military aircraft, including strategic bombers and surveillance planes.
According to sources within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), long-range drones struck Russian airfields in Olenya, Murmansk region, and Belaya, Irkutsk region. The strike reportedly damaged a range of aircraft including Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 nuclear-capable bombers, as well as A-50 early warning aircraft, which are vital to Russian air operations.
Videos shared by Ukrainian outlets and on social media show multiple aircraft engulfed in flames with visible explosions. While these visuals remain unverified by independent agencies, Ukrainian intelligence claims the attack was carefully planned and executed with precision.
A source within the SBU told The Kyiv Independent, “This was one of the most successful drone operations to date. The enemy’s bombers are burning en masse.”
Russia has not officially confirmed the extent of the damage. No formal statement has been released by the Russian Ministry of Defense as of this report. However, pro-Kremlin military bloggers acknowledged that several airfields were “under threat” and suggested that emergency responses were underway.
