What was meant to be a day of celebration turned into a tragic incident at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory event claimed two lives, including a child, and left over 25 people injured.

The incident occurred as thousands of fans gathered at the stadium to witness the felicitation of the RCB squad following their historic maiden IPL title win. The stadium, overwhelmed by the turnout, saw chaos at the entry gates as excited fans began breaching barricades, leading to a stampede-like situation.
Eyewitnesses reported that several individuals, including women and children, were caught in the rush. In a desperate attempt to control the crowd, the police resorted to lathi charge, which further worsened the panic.
“People started pushing as soon as the gates opened. Suddenly, everyone was falling over each other. It was terrifying,” said one injured spectator.
Emergency services quickly rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. While most injuries were minor, several are reported to be in critical condition.
The victims have been identified, and authorities are in contact with their families. An official investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the mismanagement and prevent such incidents in the future.
The felicitation ceremony, which was to include appearances by Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and other key RCB players, was briefly delayed. The Karnataka state government has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, who was present at the venue earlier in the day, called the incident “deeply unfortunate” and assured strict action against those responsible for the mismanagement.
Meanwhile, RCB has expressed condolences through their official social media handle, stating:
“Our hearts go out to the families of those affected by today’s tragic incident. We are working closely with local authorities and extend full support.”
Despite the tragedy, fans continued to express their love for the team. However, many have demanded stricter crowd control and better public safety measures for such large-scale events in the future.
