Telangana Reels Under Heavy Rain, More Showers on the Way
Telangana woke up to another rain-soaked day on Monday as heavy showers lashed several parts of the state. Districts like Mulugu, Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad were among the worst hit, with overflowing streams cutting off villages and roads submerged under floodwaters, according to reports in The Times of India.
Farmers have reported severe damage to paddy and cotton crops across thousands of acres. In some areas, families had to be shifted out of marooned homes as NDRF teams carried out rescue operations, officials confirmed.
Hyderabad Feels the Impact Too
The state capital wasn’t spared either. Hyderabad saw intermittent but steady showers, leading to traffic jams and waterlogging in several localities. According to Telangana Today, rainfall levels in parts of the city touched 30–46 mm overnight, slowing down daily life and office commutes.
CM Reviews Situation
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has asked all district collectors to remain on high alert. Relief camps have been opened in flood-prone areas, and repair works on damaged roads and canals are being taken up urgently. The CM also directed the irrigation department to closely monitor reservoirs and canals to prevent further breaches.
IMD Forecast: More Rain Ahead
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall till August 20. An orange alert has also been sounded for several other districts, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely to continue till August 22.
Safety Advisory
Authorities have urged citizens to:
Avoid venturing into low-lying or flood-prone areas
Refrain from crossing overflowing streams or roads
Stay updated with official IMD weather bulletins
Telangana’s monsoon fury shows no sign of easing yet. With more heavy showers expected in the coming days, officials warn residents to stay cautious and follow advisories.
