Aadhaar Updates Now Possible from Home as UIDAI Rolls Out New App-Based Services

Aadhaar Updates

In a major digital push, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that Aadhaar cardholders will soon be able to update their personal details from the comfort of their homes. This transformative move is part of UIDAI’s plan to make the Aadhaar ecosystem more accessible, secure, and user-friendly.

Under the new system, individuals can update key Aadhaar details such as name, phone number, and address using a mobile application, eliminating the need to visit Aadhaar enrollment centres. These updates can be authenticated through a secure OTP (one-time password) process, which ensures user identity and simplifies the procedure.

The UIDAI is also preparing to link Aadhaar with various critical databases, including birth certificates, driving licenses, passports, and PAN cards. This integration is expected to be completed by November 2025, providing seamless digital verification across services.

Officials also revealed plans to crack down on fake Aadhaar cards through what are being called “surgical strikes”—a focused effort to identify and eliminate fraudulent Aadhaar numbers that compromise data integrity and national security.

In addition to home-based updates, a QR code-based verification system will allow individuals to securely share Aadhaar details with agencies without handing over physical documents. This privacy-focused feature ensures that only authorized information is disclosed, reducing risks of misuse.

The initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to promote digital governance and ease of access to essential services.
