Veteran film producer Allu Aravind has clarified his stance on the ongoing controversy surrounding the closure of theatres in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the release of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film.
Speaking to the media, Aravind stated, “It is not right to shut down theatres just because a Pawan Kalyan film is releasing. Such actions are unfair and go against the spirit of healthy film business.”
He backed Pawan Kalyan’s recent remarks, calling them “reasonable,” and emphasized that after a new government is formed in Andhra Pradesh, film industry representatives should approach the administration to resolve their concerns amicably.
“Nothing in this industry can move forward without the cooperation of the government,” Aravind said. “Pawan Kalyan is fighting for the welfare of the cinema industry, and his efforts deserve support.”
Addressing claims that some individuals supported the decision to close theatres, Aravind made his position clear: “Only four people supported this move. I was not one of them.”
He further added, “I own just one theatre in Telangana. My profession is filmmaking. I’m not involved in theatre politics.”
His statement comes amid a growing debate on the politicization of film releases in Andhra Pradesh, especially when actors with political affiliations are involved. Many in the industry have called for a neutral and business-first approach, keeping creative and political interests separate.
With elections underway and Pawan Kalyan playing a major political role, the Telugu film industry finds itself at the intersection of cinema and politics once again.
