In the wake of the recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited homes in the border areas that were severely damaged by the attack. The visit came after reports of widespread destruction in several villages, including some located near the Line of Control (LoC).
At around 10 AM today, Omar Abdullah toured the affected regions, including the villages of Bhanwal and nearby areas in the Pathankot sector. These villages were struck by Pakistani artillery shells, damaging homes and infrastructure. While no fatalities have been reported, the attack has left many families displaced and in distress.
During his visit, Abdullah met with the affected residents, offering his condolences and expressing solidarity with those who have suffered due to the attack. “The pain and hardship these families are going through is deeply unfortunate. The government is committed to providing them with all the support they need in this difficult time,” he said, assuring the people that the government would expedite the reconstruction process.
The Chief Minister also conducted an on-site review of the damage and announced that relief and rehabilitation efforts would be prioritized. Emergency response teams were deployed to assist in restoring basic utilities and to help families return to their homes.
The visit drew attention to the vulnerability of the civilian population in Jammu and Kashmir’s border regions, who continue to bear the brunt of escalating hostilities along the LoC. Several villages in these areas have been frequently targeted by cross-border shelling, displacing families and causing widespread property damage.
Local officials confirmed that the Indian Army and local security forces are maintaining high alert in the region, and strict measures have been taken to prevent further attacks. The government has also initiated talks with military commanders to ensure enhanced protection for civilians living in the border areas.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of civilians in the region, and political leaders from across India have condemned the attack. Omar Abdullah has urged both state and central governments to come together to provide aid and support for the affected families while ensuring long-term solutions to safeguard the region’s residents from further aggression.
