Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated further after key Indian officials revealed that Pakistan employed Turkish-origin drones and used civilian airliners as shields during recent cross-border hostilities.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, in a press briefing, confirmed that Pakistan deployed between 300 and 400 Turkish-made Songar drones at over 30 locations along the western border. The drones were reportedly used to target military installations and supply lines in Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu regions.
In a startling revelation, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated that Pakistan had kept its civilian airspace open during the drone operations. “By allowing civil aviation flights to continue over active military zones, they effectively used these aircraft as shields—putting innocent lives at risk,” she said.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri added another grim layer to the situation by stating that Pakistani strikes targeted places of worship. “This is a new low even for Pakistan,” he said. One such incident included an attack on a gurudwara in Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, resulting in civilian casualties.
Indian defense sources say that more than 70 of the attacking drones were neutralized using both conventional and electronic warfare techniques. Indian retaliation reportedly caused “heavy damage” to Pakistani military assets.
As of now, Operation Sindoor, India’s large-scale counter-operation, remains active, and high-level diplomatic channels are closely monitoring developments.
