In a tragic loss to the Indian entertainment industry, acclaimed actor Mukul Dev has passed away at the age of 54. The actor breathed his last on Friday night after a reported period of health complications, although the exact cause of death remains undisclosed at the time of this report.
Known for his versatile roles across Hindi, Punjabi, and South Indian cinema, Mukul Dev carved a niche for himself with films such as Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, Jai Ho, and Yamla Pagla Deewana. He was last seen in the Hindi film Anth The End. His unexpected demise has left fans and colleagues stunned and heartbroken.
Actress Deepshikha Nagpal, a close friend, confirmed the news via Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute with a throwback picture and the words, “RIP.” Actor Vindu Dara Singh also expressed his sorrow, stating, “He was like a brother. I still can’t believe he’s gone.”
Born in New Delhi into a Punjabi family, Mukul was the son of Hari Dev, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, who introduced him to Afghan culture and languages like Pashto and Persian. A man of many talents, Mukul Dev was also a trained pilot from the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi. Despite his passion for aviation, his calling lay in acting, and he began his career with the television serial Mumkin in 1996, followed by roles in Doordarshan’s Ek Se Badh Kar Ek and as host of Fear Factor India Season 1.
He made his big-screen debut in the film Dastak alongside former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, portraying the role of ACP Rohit Malhotra. Over the years, he became a familiar face in commercial and critical successes, known for his ability to portray both intense and comic characters with equal ease.
Mukul Dev is survived by his brother, actor Rahul Dev, who has yet to issue a public statement. The funeral arrangements are expected to be shared once the family finalizes them.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the film industry and fans around the country, Mukul Dev’s legacy as a passionate performer and a kind soul remains etched in the hearts of many.
