Tensions escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) as Pakistani forces launched an unprovoked attack on the border town of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The shelling, which targeted civilian and administrative zones, claimed the life of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Raj Kumar Thapa, who sustained critical injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment.
According to official sources, heavy shelling began early in the morning and lasted for several hours. The sudden attack caused panic among local residents and led to the evacuation of several areas close to the border.
Raj Kumar Thapa, who was on official duty in the region, was caught in the shelling. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries but could not be saved despite intensive medical efforts.
Top administrative officials and political leaders across the region expressed deep grief over the loss. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the death, calling it “a profound loss to the Union Territory’s administrative fraternity” and lauded Thapa’s service and dedication.
Security forces have been put on high alert following the attack, and retaliatory action by the Indian Army is reportedly underway. Meanwhile, diplomatic channels are being activated to raise the issue with Islamabad, stressing the violation of ceasefire agreements.
The incident has once again highlighted the fragile security situation along the LoC and the vulnerability of frontline administrative personnel working in conflict-prone areas.
Further investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures are being reviewed to safeguard civilian and official presence in sensitive regions.
