Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi has been handed a one-match suspension and fined 50% of his match fee following a heated on-field altercation with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma during their IPL 2025 clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The disciplinary action comes after Rathi was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct, his third such offense this season. The incident occurred when Rathi dismissed Sharma and responded with an aggressive “notebook” celebration gesture, leading to a fiery exchange between the two players.
Under IPL regulations, accumulating five demerit points results in an automatic suspension. With this latest violation, Rathi has crossed that threshold and will now miss LSG’s upcoming match against Gujarat Titans on May 22 in Ahmedabad.
Abhishek Sharma was also penalized. He received a 25% fine on his match fee and was issued a warning along with one demerit point, marking his first offense this season.
IPL match referees reiterated the importance of maintaining sportsmanship on the field and warned players that repeated behavioral violations will lead to stricter punishments.
LSG has yet to announce a replacement for Rathi in the playing XI for the next match.
