BCCI Moves Matches Out of Bengaluru: Trouble Mounts for KSCA

BCCI

In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially moved several high-profile matches away from Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, dealing a blow to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). This decision comes in the wake of the tragic stampede that occurred during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory parade on June 4, which claimed 11 lives and raised serious concerns about crowd management and stadium safety.

The BCCI has confirmed that the upcoming South Africa A tour of India, which includes three one-day matches, will now be hosted at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot instead of Bengaluru. Similarly, the India A vs South Africa A ODI series scheduled for November has been cancelled or relocated from the city.

While multi-day matches during the South Africa A tour will still be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the shift of all limited-overs fixtures out of the city is being seen as a strong statement from the cricket board. The move suggests growing dissatisfaction with KSCA’s handling of logistical and safety responsibilities, especially in light of the recent tragedy.

Sources within the BCCI have indicated that the decision was taken in the interest of public safety and maintaining the credibility of India’s cricket infrastructure. Meanwhile, KSCA has seen high-level resignations following the incident, with both the secretary and treasurer stepping down citing moral responsibility.

This development could mark the beginning of deeper issues for KSCA, which now faces pressure to overhaul its event management protocols and restore trust with both the BCCI and cricket fans. Until significant reforms are made, Bengaluru’s chances of hosting major national or international matches appear uncertain.
