COVID-19 Claims Two Lives in India Amid Rising Cases

COVID-19

India has reported two new deaths due to COVID-19, marking renewed concerns about a potential resurgence of the virus in parts of the country. The deceased include a 21-year-old youth from Thane, Maharashtra, and an 84-year-old man from Bengaluru, Karnataka.

According to health officials, the young man from Thane was undergoing treatment at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital and succumbed to the infection on May 25. In Karnataka, the elderly patient passed away on May 17 due to multi-organ failure after testing positive for COVID-19. He also had underlying health conditions.

These incidents come amid a slow but noticeable rise in active cases across several states, prompting authorities to issue renewed health advisories.

Current Active COVID-19 Cases (As of May 25, 2025):

  • Kerala: 273 cases
  • Tamil Nadu: 66 cases
  • Maharashtra: 56 cases
  • Delhi: 23 cases
  • Karnataka: 36 cases

While the numbers remain relatively low compared to previous waves, the new fatalities have highlighted the ongoing vulnerability, particularly among the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

Health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant, wear masks in crowded places, and consider booster doses if eligible. The government has also signaled that it is monitoring the situation closely and will not hesitate to issue localized advisories or restrictions if required.

“We are not at a crisis point, but we must not ignore the signs,” said a senior health ministry official. “Precaution is still our best defense.”
