Acclaimed actor Dhanush is set to play the role of former President and renowned scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in an upcoming biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The film, directed by Adipurush filmmaker Om Raut, was officially announced at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where the first-look poster was unveiled to the public.

The biopic will chronicle the extraordinary life of Dr. Kalam, tracing his journey from a modest upbringing in Rameswaram to becoming India’s 11th President and one of the nation’s most celebrated scientific minds. Known for his humility, vision, and contribution to India’s space and defense programs, Dr. Kalam remains a deeply admired figure across generations.

Dhanush expressed his gratitude and excitement for taking on the role, stating, “I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader — our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, sir.” The National Award-winning actor is expected to bring emotional depth and intensity to the role, further elevating the project’s anticipation.

The film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Abhishek Agarwal, whose recent projects include socially impactful films such as The Kashmir Files. The screenplay is written by Saiwyn Quadras, best known for his work on successful biopics like Neerja and Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran.

Director Om Raut emphasized that the film aims to portray not just Kalam’s scientific achievements, but his human side — as a teacher, poet, and visionary. “This film is not just about achievements; it’s about heart, humility, and hope,” Raut said during the announcement at Cannes.

The film has already generated significant buzz both in India and internationally. While the release date has not yet been disclosed, Kalam: The Missile Man of India is poised to be one of the most awaited biopics in recent times
