“Food Poisoning Crisis: Urgent Concerns in Telangana’s Gurukula Hostels”

Food Poisoning

In the past 50 days, a concerning wave of food poisoning has swept through various Gurukula hostels in Telangana state, leaving 135 students affected and tragically claiming the life of one student. These incidents have raised questions about the oversight and responsibility of the education authorities in ensuring the well-being of students under their care.

The latest incident occurred at Bhuvangiri Gurukula Hostel, where 40 students fell ill with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea after consuming adulterated food. Tragically, one student named Prashanth passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Similar incidents have been reported from other Gurukula hostels across the state. In Kesamudram Gurukula Hostel in Mahabubabad district, 20 students suffered from food poisoning due to contaminated food. Additionally, 20 students at the KGBV Gurukula Hostel in Narsapur, Nirmal District, and four students at Nereducharla Gurukula Hostel in Nalgonda district were hospitalized for the same reason. Furthermore, Sultanabad Gurukula Hostel in Peddapalli District witnessed 20 cases of food poisoning among its students.

The recurrence of such incidents raises concerns about the effectiveness of food safety measures and the supervision of hostel facilities in Gurukula schools. Many are questioning the whereabouts of the education minister and other responsible officials amidst this alarming trend. The lack of proactive measures and swift action to address these issues reflects poorly on the education department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

As the number of affected students continues to rise, there is a growing demand for accountability and urgent intervention to prevent further occurrences. Parents and the public are calling on education authorities to take immediate steps to improve food quality standards, enhance monitoring mechanisms, and ensure the health and safety of students across all Gurukula hostels in the state.
