What began as a day of celebration turned tragic for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans, as a stampede-like situation unfolded during the team’s IPL 2025 victory parade near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Thousands of fans, overflowing with joy and uncontrolled affection, gathered to celebrate RCB’s first-ever IPL title win. However, the massive turnout overwhelmed security arrangements. The crowd surge at one of the entry points quickly spiraled into panic, leading to injuries and chaos.
Disturbing visuals from the scene showed broken police batons hurled toward the crowd as authorities attempted to control the swelling numbers. Many fans, including women and children, were seen crying, fainting, and struggling for space. Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as “heartbreaking and frightening.”
Despite several warnings from the police to maintain order, the situation escalated due to the lack of adequate barricading and exit routes. Emergency services were rushed to the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals. At last count, over 25 were injured, and multiple deaths were confirmed due to the crush of the crowd.
RCB issued a statement expressing grief over the incident and urged fans to prioritize safety over celebration. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has ordered a probe into the mismanagement and promised strict action against those responsible.
