In a major development for cricket fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume later this week, following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
The tournament, which was temporarily suspended due to escalating border tensions and security concerns, is now scheduled to restart as early as Thursday. According to BCCI sources, matches will be held across multiple venues in India—except Dharamsala, which has been excluded due to its proximity to sensitive border areas.
“Safety remains our top priority, and we are closely coordinating with security agencies and local authorities to ensure smooth operations,” a senior BCCI official said.
The temporary halt had forced many overseas players to return to their home countries. However, franchises have been instructed to regroup and bring players back by Tuesday in preparation for the remainder of the season. A total of 12 league-stage matches and 4 playoff games remain, with the tournament still expected to conclude by its original end date of May 25.
The ceasefire, brokered through international diplomatic efforts, has paved the way for the return of major sporting events, with the IPL’s restart symbolizing a step back toward normalcy. The league is also expected to offer a much-needed morale boost for millions of cricket fans.
Franchise managements are reportedly in active talks with overseas boards to ensure the availability of international players for the concluding stages of the tournament.
The IPL’s return has sparked excitement on social media, with fans eagerly awaiting high-octane action from their favorite teams and players. The BCCI is expected to release an updated schedule in the coming days.
