Modi Government Extends Closure of 24 Airports in North and West India Until May 15 Amid Security Concerns

Modi Government

In light of heightened military tensions with Pakistan, the Government of India has extended the closure of 24 airports in northern and western regions until May 15, 2025. The Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), citing security concerns and the need to ensure civilian safety during ongoing defense operations.

The affected airports include major civilian and military installations such as Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Bathinda, and several others in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh. Operations at these airports were initially suspended on May 7 and are now extended until 5:29 AM on May 15.

Airlines including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories, canceling or diverting flights and offering full refunds or rescheduling options for impacted passengers.

This development comes amid reports of drone intrusions, missile threats, and increasing cross-border military activity. India’s defense forces remain on high alert, and citizens have been urged to avoid non-essential travel in sensitive regions.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines and official government sources for updates before heading to the airport.
