Just hours after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire agreement, Pakistan reportedly violated the truce by initiating artillery shelling and drone activity in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceasefire was scheduled to take effect from 5:00 PM IST after a discussion between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. However, by late evening, multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB)—including Rajouri, Akhnoor, and Palanwalla—came under fire.
In addition to shelling, drones were reportedly spotted and intercepted, with one shot down in Baramulla district. Explosions were also heard in Srinagar and Udhampur, causing power outages and increasing tension across the region.
The Indian Army and Border Security Forces were placed on high alert and have been instructed to respond firmly to any further violations. Despite the ceasefire agreement being seen as a major diplomatic step, these actions have cast doubts on its longevity.
Both sides continue to accuse each other of initiating hostilities, and the international community is urging restraint and dialogue to de-escalate the situation.
