Telangana Launches First-Ever Tourism Policy, Aims to Attract ₹15,000 Crore Investment

Telangana has officially launched its first-ever Tourism Policy with the aim of transforming the state into a leading tourist destination in India. Announced on May 4, 2025, the new policy seeks to attract investments worth ₹15,000 crore over the next five years. The state plans to create around 3 lakh jobs in the tourism sector by focusing on improving infrastructure, enhancing security, and promoting its cultural and historical heritage.

One of the key strategies is leveraging the upcoming Miss World 2025 pageant, which will take place in Hyderabad from May 7 to 31. Contestants from more than 120 countries will have the opportunity to experience and promote Telangana’s top tourist attractions, including the Charminar, Nagarjuna Sagar, and the Buddhavanam Project. This international spotlight is expected to bring attention to the state’s unique cultural heritage and natural beauty.

The new policy also emphasizes the development of modern tourism infrastructure, including hotels, resorts, and transportation networks, while promoting eco-tourism and sustainable travel practices. The Telangana government has promised to set up a dedicated tourist police unit to ensure the safety and security of visitors, enhancing the overall tourism experience.

Tourism is projected to contribute at least 10% to the state’s economy, with the goal of making Telangana one of the top five states in India for tourism. The policy is expected to create substantial economic growth, providing numerous employment opportunities in hospitality, travel, and related sectors.

The Telangana government has also committed to fostering public-private partnerships to encourage investment in the tourism industry, offering incentives such as tax breaks and subsidies. Officials believe that with these measures in place, Telangana will be able to draw a growing number of tourists, both from within India and abroad, and establish itself as a world-class destination.

With a focus on culture, history, and eco-tourism, Telangana is now poised to take its place as one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in India, and the new Tourism Policy marks a significant step in realizing that goal.
