TSRTC Employees Facing 6% Cut in HRA, Heavy Loss for GHMC Workers

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has implemented a 6 percent reduction in House Rent Allowance (HRA) for its employees, leading to significant concerns, especially among those working under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

This decision comes in the wake of the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) 2017 recommendations by the state government, which initially included a 16 percent interim allowance and more recently announced a 21 percent fitment. However, in a circular issued last Friday, the RTC management announced a reduction in HRAs.

Previously, employees working within the Greater Hyderabad region, including Hyderabad and Secunderabad, were receiving a 30 percent HRA. However, the recent circular has limited this allowance to 24 percent, resulting in a 6 percent reduction for employees in this area.

Of the 42 thousand RTC workers across the state, over 20 thousand are stationed within Greater Hyderabad, making this reduction particularly impactful for a significant portion of the workforce.

Furthermore, employees stationed in other regions such as Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Godavarikhani, and Warangal have also experienced a decrease in HRA from 20 percent to 17 percent.

The decision has sparked discontent among RTC employees, with many expressing concerns about the impact on their livelihoods, especially given the rising costs of living and housing in urban areas.

The reduction in HRA has prompted calls for reconsideration from various employee unions, urging the RTC management to address the grievances of its workforce.

As the situation unfolds, employees await further updates and potential actions to address the challenges posed by the reduction in HRA, particularly for those working under the GHMC jurisdiction.
