In a massive crackdown on illegal encroachments, authorities in Ahmedabad have launched the largest-ever demolition drive in the city’s history. The operation is taking place in an area reportedly known for illegal settlements, including those of Bangladeshi nationals.
The mega operation involves:
- 74 JCB machines
- 200 transport trucks
- 3,000 police personnel
- 1,800 municipal corporation workers
This large-scale effort is being hailed as a historic move by the local administration and police to clear unauthorized structures and restore order.
As part of the drive, Gujarat Police also demolished the illegal empire of Lala Bihari, a known criminal figure with suspected links to anti-social activities. Authorities report that Bihari was involved in helping illegal Bangladeshi migrants settle in the area, allegedly with the aim of changing the local population’s demographic makeup.
During the raid, officials seized 20 luxury cars, 200 auto-rickshaws, and several horses from his properties.
The state government has described the operation as a strong message against illegal settlements and criminal networks. The drive is expected to continue in the coming days as part of a broader plan to clean up the area and re-establish legal order.
