A bomb threat call to Tirupati’s Renigunta Airport sent local authorities into a state of high alert on Sunday night. The anonymous caller claimed that a bomb had been planted within the airport premises, prompting immediate action from airport authorities.
Officials quickly lodged a formal complaint with the Yerpedu police station, which covers the jurisdiction of the Renigunta Airport. Upon receiving the complaint, local law enforcement agencies and security personnel swung into action. A team of police officers, bomb squads, and airport security carried out extensive searches throughout the airport, ensuring no area was left unchecked.
The bomb squads used advanced detection equipment and carried out a thorough sweep of the entire airport, including passenger terminals, baggage areas, and the runway. The searches, which lasted through the night, were a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers, staff, and infrastructure.
No explosive devices were found during the search, and authorities are treating the call as a potential hoax. However, further investigations are underway to trace the origin of the call and determine the identity of the person responsible for the bomb threat. Local police have increased security in and around the airport to prevent any further incidents.
“We take every threat seriously, and the safety of passengers and staff is our top priority. We are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the highest level of security at the airport,” said an airport official.
Despite the scare, flight operations were not heavily impacted, though some delays were reported as the airport was temporarily cordoned off during the search. Passengers were advised to cooperate with security personnel and remain vigilant.
Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity and warned that making such false calls can result in severe legal consequences. Police are confident that the investigation will soon lead to the identification of the perpetrator behind the threat.
The situation has returned to normal, and airport operations have resumed without further disruptions. However, additional security measures will remain in place to ensure the continued safety of all travelers.
