The Delhi High Court has issued notices to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing National Herald case. The court directed both leaders to file written submissions within four weeks, with a penalty of ₹15,000 for delayed submissions. The matter is scheduled for arguments on October 29, 2024 .
The case revolves around allegations made by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who claims that the Gandhis and others misappropriated funds by acquiring the now-defunct National Herald newspaper through their company, Young Indian Ltd (YIL). Swamy alleges that the Congress party transferred a loan of ₹90.25 crore owed by Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the publisher of National Herald, to YIL for just ₹50 lakh, enabling YIL to take control of AJL’s assets, including valuable real estate properties .
The Delhi High Court’s recent order pertains to a plea by Swamy seeking permission to lead evidence before the trial court in this case. The court’s notice to the Gandhis and others indicates that the legal proceedings are ongoing, and the matter is scheduled for further hearings in the coming months.
