The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced a venue change for an upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The highly anticipated fixture between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, originally scheduled for Dharamsala, will now be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The decision comes in the wake of regional security concerns following a recent cross-border incident and rising geopolitical tensions in South Asia. Though there have been no direct threats to players or venues in India, the BCCI took a proactive approach to ensure the safety and comfort of all involved.

In a brief statement, the BCCI said, “After closely monitoring the security situation and consulting with local authorities, we have decided to relocate the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians match to Ahmedabad. The safety of players, officials, and fans remains our top priority.”

The match, which is scheduled for later this week, will go ahead as planned but in the new venue. Fans who had purchased tickets for the Dharamsala game will be eligible for a full refund or exchange through official IPL ticketing platforms.

While this is a rare mid-season venue shift, the IPL has dealt with similar challenges in the past, including pandemic-related relocations and elections affecting scheduling.

A BCCI official added that all foreign players have been briefed on the situation and remain “comfortable and committed” to completing the season as scheduled.

This development mirrors the recent decision by the Pakistan Cricket Board to shift the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the UAE amid similar concerns, highlighting how regional instability is impacting the cricketing calendar.

Despite the disruption, fans can expect an electrifying contest between the two IPL giants at one of the world’s largest and most modern cricket stadiums.
