In a proud moment for Maharashtra, the state’s BJP-led government has successfully acquired the sword of Raje Raghuji Bhosale, the legendary founder of the Bhosale dynasty of Nagpur, at an international auction held in London.
The historic weapon, which holds deep cultural and historical significance for the state, was up for bidding at a prestigious auction house. Recognizing its importance, the Maharashtra government stepped in to bring the artifact back home.
Raje Raghuji Bhosale, a key figure in the Maratha empire, is celebrated for his role in expanding Maratha influence in central India during the 18th century. His legacy is closely tied to Nagpur, where his dynasty played a major role in the region’s governance and development.
Officials from the Maharashtra government confirmed the purchase and said the sword would be returned to India soon. It is expected to be displayed in a museum in Nagpur or Mumbai, giving people a chance to connect with a proud chapter of their heritage.
