Pakistan Conducts Official Funerals for Terrorists Killed in India’s Retaliatory Strike

Violates Ceasefire

In a move that has raised tensions further between India and Pakistan, the Pakistani government has conducted official funerals with state honors for the terrorists killed in India’s recent retaliatory strike. The attack, which occurred on May 7, 2025, targeted terrorist camps operating across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, leading to the deaths of several militants.

According to reports from Pakistan, the funerals for these militants were held with full state honors, including ceremonial guard details and the draping of their coffins in national flags. The funerals were organized despite the militants’ involvement in cross-border terrorism targeting Indian civilians and military personnel. This practice of granting state honors to terrorists has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan, with India condemning it as a blatant act of support for terrorism.

India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, condemned Pakistan’s actions in a press briefing, stating, “It has become a custom in Pakistan to hold official funerals with state honors for terrorists, glorifying violence and terrorism. This is unacceptable and only serves to escalate the situation.”

The Indian military’s retaliatory strike came after a series of Pakistani-backed terrorist attacks on Indian soil, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. On May 6, a deadly cross-border strike from Pakistani militants resulted in the deaths of 16 innocent Indian civilians, including women and children. In response, India launched a series of airstrikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including training camps and weapons storage sites.

While Pakistan initially denied any involvement in these attacks, it later acknowledged that several militants were killed in the Indian airstrikes. The official funerals of these militants in Pakistan have only intensified the ongoing conflict, leading to an outcry in India.

International reactions have been mixed. The United Nations has called for restraint from both sides, urging India and Pakistan to avoid further escalation. However, countries like the United States and the United Kingdom have expressed concern over Pakistan’s ongoing support for groups accused of terrorism, highlighting the potential for such actions to destabilize the region.

Pakistan’s actions have put further strain on the already fragile diplomatic relationship with India. Indian officials have expressed frustration over Pakistan’s continued support for militant groups that operate in Indian territories. The official funerals for these terrorists are seen as a direct provocation, especially as India continues to deal with the aftermath of the cross-border terrorist attacks.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement calling Pakistan’s actions a “flagrant disregard for international norms and a blatant endorsement of terrorism.” The statement further called on the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.

With tensions now at a boiling point, both India and Pakistan seem locked in a dangerous cycle of retaliation. The increasing militarization and the glorification of militants in Pakistan are likely to provoke further military responses from India, and the risk of a full-scale war looms large.

Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation have so far proven unsuccessful, with both sides refusing to back down. As the situation remains tense, the international community continues to call for restraint and dialogue, but for now, it seems unlikely that either nation will be willing to soften its stance.
