In a significant political and administrative move, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to discuss a slew of ambitious infrastructure and industrial projects aimed at propelling Telangana into a new phase of development. The high-level meeting took place in New Delhi and lasted over an hour, signaling a cooperative federal approach to Telangana’s evolving growth strategy.

Key Development Proposals Presented

During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy sought the Union Government’s support for multiple large-scale projects, foremost among them the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion. The ₹24,269 crore project will add 76.4 kilometers across five new corridors. The Chief Minister requested expedited Cabinet approval, with a proposed funding model that includes ₹4,230 crore from the Centre, ₹7,313 crore from the state, and the remainder raised through loans.

Another key topic was the Regional Ring Road (RRR). CM Reddy emphasized the urgency of approving the northern and southern sections to avoid cost escalation due to delays. The Telangana government has committed to funding 50% of the land acquisition expenses.

Further, the CM proposed a Regional Ring Railway project and a Greenfield Expressway connecting a proposed dry port near Hyderabad to Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at enhancing freight movement and boosting industrial logistics in the region.

Pitch for Semiconductor, Defence Industry Boost

Revanth Reddy also pushed for Telangana’s inclusion in the India Semiconductor Mission, citing the state’s readiness to become a major player in advanced electronics manufacturing. He requested Union backing for setting up defence and aerospace joint ventures, and suggested the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor be recognized as an official Defence Corridor.

He also proposed hosting the next Defence Expo in Hyderabad, reinforcing the city’s status as a hub for innovation and strategic manufacturing.

National Task Force for Metro Development

In a forward-looking proposal at the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, CM Reddy advocated for the formation of a National Task Force for Metro Cities, chaired by the Prime Minister. The body would include chief ministers of cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata to coordinate policies for urban economic growth, innovation, and infrastructure development.

“Will Meet PM 50 Times if Needed”: Revanth Reddy

Speaking at a public meeting in Zaheerabad after his visit, CM Reddy reiterated his commitment to state development, saying, “I will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi not just once, but 50 times if needed to get the necessary support for Telangana.”

The Prime Minister’s Office acknowledged the meeting on social media, confirming that discussions were held on developmental priorities for the state.

As Telangana seeks to accelerate its industrial and infrastructural transformation, Friday’s meeting signals a potential turning point in Centre-State collaboration, with CM Reddy adopting a proactive strategy to secure federal backing.
