Hyderabad Bangles

Hyderabad,- The renowned lac bangles, a cultural gem from Hyderabad’s Laad Bazaar near Charminar, have achieved Geographical Indication (GI) registration. This prestigious recognition was granted on Saturday, March 2, by the GI Registry of the Government of India.

The Hyderabad Lac Bangles, celebrated both locally and internationally, owe their fame to the exceptional skill and creativity of the craftsmen in the region who intricately design lacquered stone-studded bangles.

This traditional craft has a rich history, originating 500 years ago during the Mughal period. Historically, lac bangles adorned the wrists of women in royal households, adding a touch of regality to their attire.

The recent GI tag is a testament to the unique geographical origin and craftsmanship involved in creating these exquisite bangles. The tag ensures that only bangles produced in the specific region of Hyderabad can bear the prestigious label.

Laad Bazaar, the heart of this artisanal tradition, has approximately 15,000 people employed in crafting these lac bangles. The intricate designs and vibrant colors make these bangles highly sought after, further enhancing the craft’s appeal in the local and global markets.

Local craftsmen have upheld and passed down their expertise through generations, contributing to the preservation and promotion of this traditional art form. The GI tag not only recognizes the cultural significance of Hyderabad’s Lac Bangles but also protects the craft from unauthorized imitation.

This recognition marks a significant milestone for the artisans and the cultural heritage of Hyderabad, ensuring the continued legacy of the world-famous Lac Bangles for generations to come.
